The idea of being an artist

was a significant part of my thinking by the time I was in the 4th grade. At the age of 21, I dedicated my life and career to being a fine artist.

I have loved every minute of being in my studio for nearly 30 years.

Enjoy what you see. Come back often, I’m so excited about what’s in the works.

Flag Day, oil on canvas, 2016

Carol Rowan works in the tradition of American realism.

Her drawings, paintings, and fine art prints are widely collected and have been shown in numerous museums and galleries in the U.S. She maintains active studios in both Washington, DC, and Nobleboro, Maine.

Some of Carol’s favorite subject matter includes the American landscape, architecture in the U.S. and abroad (particularly in Italy and Australia, where she has family), harbors in Maine and elsewhere, humble boats like dinghies, and classical, casual still life scenes.

Her influences include Frederic Edwin Church (a distant relative), Andrew and Jamie Wyeth, and modern masters like Jackson Pollock, Joseph Albers, and George Tooker.

Carol is a skilled and sensitive portrait artist who has captured people, horses, dogs, pigs, and other animals in paintings and drawings. To explore commissioning your own project, or to learn about other available works, please reach out to Carol using the contact form.
